Lions-Measles Initiative Receives Grant from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
We’re excited to announce that Lions and LCIF are joining a world-wide effort spearheaded by the Measles Initiative to protect children from measles – a leading cause of childhood blindness.
This special Lions-Measles Initiative pilot program will take place in four African countries – Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mali and Nigeria. The Lions-Measles Initiative pilot program is being funded in part by a US$400,000 grant to LCIF from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
LCIF is providing an additional US$300,000 to support the project. Lions in the four pilot countries will help manage the program locally. Our members will be directly involved in social marketing and vaccination activities, and Lions’ leadership teams will coordinate program implementation with Ministries of Health and other Measles Initiative partners.

August 19, 2010 Diabetes Awareness Updates
Hello everyone, my caretaker 2nd VDG Norma Callahan wanted everyone to know about some updates to the training schedule and upcoming Stride Walk for Diabetes.
After our Summer Conference on beautiful Fort Myers Beach we added and changed some of the training dates. The reason for the additions and changes were because the diabetes grant will end soon and we wanted to fit as many training classes in as possible.
November is Lions Diabetes Awareness Month and November 14th is World Diabetes Day. With that in mind our 6th Annual Diabetes Awareness Strides Walk will be held on Saturday November 6, 2010. If your Lions Club would like to make a donation of $25.00 or more we will be more than happy to add the name of your Lions Club to the stride walk shirt as a sponsor. Read more...

Special Message from PVDG Dudley Bent
On Monday March 29, 2010 shortly after 11:00 AM a deadly Tornado struck Freeport Harbor and various residential areas in Freeport, including those near Port Lucaya Marketplace.
The tornado touched down in Freeport Harbor less than 2 hours after the cruise ship carrying PDG Anne Greer and PVDG Carolyn Sorg along with 35+ other Lions had left port.
Within days much needed supplies including 32 suitcases of clothing and support poured in from the Lions of Multiple District 35. I wish to express my heartfelt thanks along with that of the Freeport Lions Club for the outpouring of support to our community.
Yours in Lionism
PVDG Dudley Bent

LCIF Newsletter
Lions have long been committed to programs that serve our youth. They are truly tomorrow's leaders. But they need us! I would like to encourage all Lions to support our youth, particularly this next month, as we focus on service to youth.
I'd like to share with you one youth program that is near and dear to my heart - Lions Quest. I have seen its great impact worldwide, as well as in my home country. This is a program loved by youth, teachers and parents alike. Why is it so loved, you ask? Because it has real results, and it gives hope for the future.
Others know this, too. The Minister of Culture in Germany told me - after Lions Quest was implemented - that it is not enough to deliver facts only in schools. We must also deliver ways to live and values for life. Read More...

Lions Club Community Needs Accessment
Because Lions help where help is needed
Once a year, your Lions Club should assess the programs and services you provide to your local community. Through a simple assessment, you will be able to understand:
-
What kinds of volunteer services your community needs.
-
Which projects and programs are important to the people in your area.
-
Whether your clubs’ current service projects are still needed by the community.
-
If other organizations in your area are providing similar services.
By utilizing the Community Needs Accessment Form your Lions Club will be able to better serve your community. Your Lions Club might even consider the Lions Services for Children Community Needs Accessment.
Both forms are available from Lions Clubs International by clicking the links below.
